It started with a plate

The van that turns up on your drive still wears M3 HR. That plate came off an E46 M3 convertible - Airlift air suspension, a custom carbon fibre boot lid and lip, and enough weekends at shows to know exactly how a car gets judged when people are looking for the flaw.

The E46 has gone. The plate stayed, because it was never really about the car. It was about the standard the car was held to.

Show cars teach you an uncomfortable lesson: nobody compliments the parts you did well. They find the swirl in the door shut, the dressing gone chalky on the arch liner, the polish left in the badge. You learn to go looking for those things first.

Wheels off, seals off

On his own cars, detailing was never a wash. Wheels came off. Door and boot seals came off. The engine bay got the same attention as the bonnet above it. It is a slow, awkward way to spend a weekend, and it is the only way to reach the places that make a car look tired even when the paint is clean.

That habit is where the method came from. Not from a course, and not from a franchise handbook. From doing it to a car he cared about, badly at first, then properly, until the shortcuts were obvious.

It also explains the quoting. Photos of the inside get you a real number, because the work is priced on what the car actually needs rather than on a menu written before anyone looked at it.

The standard was set on a car nobody was paying him to touch.

Wheels off, seals off, engine bay included. It began as a weekend habit on his own M3, and it is the reason the work is quoted on what a car needs rather than on a menu.

Why cars, and not the desk

This is the turn in the story: the move from a screen-based career into work that is judged by hand, in daylight, on someone's driveway. Held for Hamza's own words.

One pair of hands

The person who quotes the car is the person who does it and the person who walks round it with you afterwards. Nothing gets passed down a line.

Fully mobile

Access to water and power is all we need, so a flat, a shared car park or a driveway all work. Reading and 25 miles around it, so Wokingham, Bracknell, Maidenhead, Henley, Windsor and Newbury are all standard.

Consider this the invitation

Send the car, the postcode and two photos of the inside. You get a price and a date back the same day, from Hamza, not from a system.
